Author: Kristy Stonechild

My name is Kristy Stonechild and I’m from Okanese First Nation. I am a 22–year-old Cree woman. I have four younger brothers and one older brother; I am my parent’s only daughter. I was raised to be proud of my cultural heritage and who I am as a First Nation woman. I feel grateful to have also been raised with my traditional culture and traditions. At a young age, I aspired to attend the First Nations University of Canada. I truly believe that education is our new buffalo. I have a strong passion for travelling and meeting Indigenous people around the world. I hope to one day travel to New Zealand to pursue just that. Currently, I am in my fourth year, and at the end of which I will have earned an Indigenous studies degree and pre-journalism certificate. INCA has been amazing, and I am excited to be a part of the INCA empire and family. After my convocation, I hope to move forward and pursue a career in Indigenous Governance.
